My wig wearing experience with Raquel Welch.

I really enjoy watching wig reviews and hearing about people's wig-wearing journeys. It's fascinating to see how different everyone's preferences, styles, and experiences can be. Sharing our stories can also help others feel more confident in their own journey. One of the best things about wigs is the wide variety available. There truly is a style for everybody! I am excited to share my experience wearing Sleek Sophistication by Raquel Welch, so stick around to hear all about it!

Before I got my wig:

I felt a little intimidated starting this new journey. I wasn't sure where to begin or what features would best suit my lifestyle, so I spent time researching to build my confidence. Since I have always kept my biological hair fairly long, I decided I’d feel most comfortable choosing a style similar to that. I’ve also found that many people have a better wig-wearing experience when they stick with something similar to their biological hair.

Unboxing and wearing my wig for the first time:

Like many people, I felt excited to see my wig in person for the first time. Before trying it on, I made sure that the color was a good fit for me. I chose the color Shaded Biscuit (RL19/23SS), which is similar to my bio hair. After confirming the color would work, I prepared to put on my wig. At first, I put it right over my bio hair. I found this to be slightly uncomfortable and a bit itchy. To fix that, I decided to braid my bio hair and use a fishnet wig cap to secure everything, and this felt much more comfortable and reduced the itchiness.

Maintaining and caring for my wig:

I knew going into this journey and choosing this particular style that I would need to put time and effort into caring for and maintaining my wig. A longer style would require regular combing and detangling throughout the day with a wide-tooth comb. Additionally, its heat-friendly fibers would require occasional heat styling to keep them feeling soft and smooth. I strongly encourage anyone considering an alternative hairpiece to research their chosen piece to ensure they feel comfortable with the level of care and maintenance it requires.

Things I would do differently next time:

I absolutely love the style I chose, but after wearing it and experimenting with the style, I’ve noticed a few things I might change for my next wig. I really love pulling my hair off my face, and since Sleek Sophistication doesn't have a lace front, that's a feature I will definitely consider next time to achieve a more natural look. Another factor I will keep in mind is density. Because this is a longer style, I expected it to be heavier, but its higher density adds to the heaviness. In the future, I will look for something with a medium density to create a lighter, more natural, everyday feel.

Final Thoughts

My first wig-wearing experience was a huge learning opportunity. Taking the time to research beforehand made a big difference, and I’m glad I did. I‘m grateful for this experience, as it helped me discover what I love, and a few things I'd like to adjust in the future. Going in with a positive mindset, staying open to new ideas, and being flexible with the process all played a big role in making this a great first experience.
