Watch out for the Oven!
If you are hosting for Thanksgiving this year, then I’m sure you already have a checklist of things you are planning on doing the day of the dinner. It may look something like:
- Set Table
- Mash potatoes
- Assemble the stuffing
- Singe your wig as you pull the pies out of the oven... wait what?!
It may sound silly, but burning your wig fibers as you open the oven is actually a common occurrence. The good news is, this is preventable! Here are some tips to make sure singeing your wig is not a part of your Thanksgiving plans!
Tip #1 - Wear your wig in an updo!
Not only are updos a stylish choice, but they also provide excellent protection for your wig from heat exposure when you are cooking your Thanksgiving dinner. You have the option of a variety of updo styles including half-up styles, elegant buns, or even messy ponytails using your favorite claw clip. Wigs with a hand-tied cap construction are wonderful for these styles, as they offer a natural look. Here are some of my top picks for hand tied wigs that are perfect for your holiday celebrations!
Tip #2 - Wear a Heat Friendly Wig
Heat friendly fibers are able to resist a low grade level of heat. While they can’t withstand 100% of the heat from cooking, they are a little more resilient than synthetic fibers. If you use the Heat Treat Thermal Spray by Jon Renau before you cook, this will add another layer of protection to your hair. Here are a few heat friendly wigs that are some of my favorites this time of year!
Tip #3 - Wear your Wig After Cooking!
The safest route you can take to protect your wig while cooking, is not to wear it at all! Instead, consider using a turban or scarf to cover your hair, and then put your wig on afterward. Luckily, putting on a wig is a quick process, so you can easily transition from cooking to looking fabulous in no time! Take a look at these comfortable and fun turbans and scarves!
